FEATURED EXPERIENCE
The new structure was completed in two phases and houses a new central emergency fire and rescue team. The challenge to this project was constructing the new facility, while allowing the the existing structure and onsite fire teams to remain fully operational.

A complete ground up structure with private class rooms, separate exercise equipment areas and a water aerobics pool. This location was a site adaptation in an urban area and
involved working closely with the city to meet the client's schedule, while adhering to LA Fitness National Standards.

This ground up fire station was designed with the direct input of the BBVFD Station 106 Fire Chief to house the new location of the emergency rescue team along Evans Rd. The site, floor plan and elevations were designed to adhere to the strict BBVFD budget. Four fold six second doors and separate shop, PPE room, Decon room and contaminant extractor and dryer areas were designed with the health and safety of housed fire fighters in mind. Large private bathing areas and easy to clean and maintainable materials were an important design element. Water and energy efficient strategies were incorporated to help ease future utility costs for anticipated growth.

The design approach for Eagle Veterinary Hospital was one of ensuring synergy between systems and the everyday functionality of the medical facility. Water reclamation, a photovoltaic system that provided power for the building, as much natural lighting as possible and materials that had a long life cycle were all part of this vision. The main challenge of this deign was to understand the hierarchy between the various animals that would make routine visits to the facility.

The project achieved the first LEED Platinum Certification rating for the city of San Antonio and the first LEED rated project to specifically address pet health in the world.
